How to Add a Skylight (Velux/Roof) Window

Step-by-step

  1. Select the Velux Window Tool:

    Click the Windows button in the toolbar and choose Skylight.

  2. Placement Rules:

    Skylight windows can only be placed on vaulted ceilings or roof elements that have already been drawn.

    Attempting to place the window elsewhere will show a warning: “Windows can only be placed on roofs or vaulted ceilings”.

  3. Position the Velux Window:

    Hover over the roof or vaulted ceiling where you want to place the Velux window.

    The tool will highlight the area for placement.

  4. Finalize Placement:

    Continue placing additional windows if needed.

    To stop placing windows, click Done in the top left or press Escape on your keyboard.

Window Properties

Once a Skylight (velux) window is placed, you can adjust the following properties in the Properties panel:

  • Color: For visual clarity in the design workspace.

  • Length and Width: Defines the window's size, which contributes to heat load calculations.

  • Material: This value, taken from the Heat Load settings, is critical for heat load calculations.

    • The material determines the U-value.

  • Remove the Skylight: Skylight may be deleted when selected and pressing the Del key or in Properties at the bottom there is a red Delete button.
