Air Handling Unit Vent

The Air Handling Unit (AHU) Vent results provide insights into the system’s performance, including airflow rates, pressure drops, and fan duties.

Supply Flow Rate

  • What It Is: The sum of the flow rates of all diffusers connected to the supply side of the system.

    • Note, the flow rate on the system may be higher than what is in the diffusers if ‘Increase Flow Rate Based on the Heat Load?’ is selected as ‘Yes’ in the ‘Heating’ tab of the Air Handling Unit properties. This increases the flow rate if more flow is required to heat the room

  • How to Review:

    • Check and edit flow rates in the properties of each diffuser.

    • Use the report exports or PDF schedules for a consolidated view of all supply-side flow rates.

Extraction Flow Rate

  • What It Is: The sum of the flow rates of all grilles connected to the extraction side of the system.

  • How to Review:

    • Review and edit flow rates in the properties of each grille.

    • View all extraction flow rates in one place using the report exports or PDF schedules.

Intake / Supply / Exhaust / Extract Pressure Drop

  • What It Is: The cumulative pressure drop along the index path for each part of the system.

  • How to Review:

    • Inspect the index node path to see where pressure losses occur.

    • Review pressure drops along ducts, fittings, valves, equipment, and diffusers/grilles to identify areas of high resistance.

    • Adjust components or duct sizes if necessary to reduce excessive pressure drop.

    • Review the heat maps and design report spreadsheet to quickly identify areas with unusually high pressure drop

Supply / Extract Fan Duty

  • What It Is: Represents the fan’s required performance, combining flow rate and pressure drop calculations.

  • Calculation:

    • Includes the Supply / Extract Flow Rate

    • Combines the pressure drops from the Intake and Supply systems, and combines the pressure drop from the Exhaust and Extract systems, on the index path.

      • The AHU properties include additional pressure drops that get added, defined in the ‘Intake, Supply’ and ‘Exhaust, Extract’ tabs.

  • How to Review:

    • Flow Rate: Review the flow rates in the properties of the diffusers/grilles

    • Pressure Drop: Review the index path
